Last year, a woman took aid from a recruiting company in Bangladesh, which later sent her to Mauritius with the promise of a decent job. This year, the same woman filed case against the same recruiting company with allegations of human trafficking.
According to the case statement, in the month of February in the year 2020, she flew to Mauritius and was offered a job of a helper in Fire Mount Textile company. She was paid poorly for her services,and was also offered an indecent proposal by a Bangladeshi man,Md Shah Alam, who used to run the workers’ canteen over there. When she refused the offer, she was constantly threatened by him and his workers.
One day, they forcefully took her to their owner Anil Kohl’s house where he molested her, and recorded a video of her. They molested her several times, and made her work for their escort service by blackmailing her with her video.They even forced her to abort her child when she became pregnant.
On December 28, 2020, she was sent back to the country, while her father was hired a month before her arrival in Bangladesh. The company threatened her to stay quiet.Ever since, she lodged a complaint against them, her father has been receiving threats.
She lodged the case with the help of the BRAC Migration program that also helped her to recover from the trauma. According to her, more than 600 Bangladeshi women working for that company are forced into this illegal prostitute business.
Head of BRAC Migration Program Shariful Hasan said, The Government of Mauritius and Bangladesh should jointly investigate the matter and ensure if there are any Bengali immigrant who is being harassed and oppressed like this.
