A Philippine air force C-130 aircraft,carrying 92 people with most of them being army personnel, crashed in the southern region of the country on Sunday as reported by the chief of armed forces.
17 army personnel were reported to be dead on the spot, while around 40 passengers were rescued from the burning wreckage.The ongoing search and rescue mission in the location is trying to save as many lives as possible. The majority of the passengers were young graduates of military training and were being deployed to Jolo Island in the Sulu province from southern Cagayan de Oro city.
“Responders are at the site now. We are praying we can save more lives,”Armed Forces Chief General Cirilito Sobejana said.
“It’s very unfortunate. The plane missed the runway, and it was trying to regain power but failed and crashed.”
Lockweed C-130 Hercules is one of the newly obtained air crafts of the air force handed over by the U.S. for military assistance. It crashed on Sunday noon in Bangkal village in the mountainous town of Patikul in Sulu province, which is home to one of the huge bases of the Philippines military.
