Dhaka is still trying to overcome the destructive explosion that took place in Moghbazar on the fateful day of 27th June,2021. Eight innocent citizens lost their lives, and more than 100 were ghastly injured in the gas explosion. The blast reportedly damaged several adjacent commercial and private buildings alongside three buses. It is not only crucial to prevent any future recurrence of the same heart-wrenching incident, but to also dig into the root cause of the massive destruction.
Police take the matter in their own hands and sub-inspector,Reazul Karim, files a complaint at Ramna Police Station. The explanations behind the blast are several:mismanagement of the building owner, incompetent gas management, defective electrical transmission line or usage of unsanctioned gas and electrical connections from tenant shops. Investigation is being done to get to the bottom of the matter.
Police formed a seven-member committee, supervised by Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, to investigate the case. Meanwhile, Brig Gen Md Sazzad Hussain, director general of Fire Service and Civil Defence, had decided to assist the police by forming his own committee consisting of 5 members, and promised to submit a report within the next seven days.
Current update on the investigation is from the news that we got from The Business Standard because of their interview with one of the probe members of the police committee. The police investigation committee visited the explosion site today, and investigated the area.”Gas accumulated in a confined space and mixed with air makes an explosive agent that may have caused the destruction,” said one of the committee members.
It seems like we have to wait to get any concrete news from the investigation teams.
