A heartbreaking story that has taken the social media by storm is the story of a young boy named Samin.
His story was written and posted on his relative’s facebook timeline named Nazneen Hussain.
Samin, a tenth grader, was a student of Ideal School and College. A young, intelligent and empathetic Samin was constantly body shamed and mocked by his peers and his teachers because of his physique. The young teenager was ridiculed for his body to such a point that he started to become irregular in his class.
One of the painful incidents of bullying that the boy shared with his family was of the time when he wanted to register his name for the school football team, but his teacher reciprocated to the teenager by insulting him in front of the class. Samin was distraught and often told his mother that he wished he would die.
Incessant taunts and mocking forced the boy to start a strict Keto diet. In a very short period of time, Samin lost a lot of mass and his weight decreased to 40kg, but the young boy also developed an eating disorder. He could hardly enjoy eating, and would often vomit after being fed.He was constantly anxious about the possibility of gaining weight again.
After consulting many doctors, Samin was diagnosed with a lethal psychiatric disorder called anorexia nervosa. His devastated parents started his routine treatment in Dhaka, but it was too much for a teenager to handle.
On the 26th of last month, Samin breathed his last in United Hospital in Dhaka.
