The consignment arrived today as part of the COVAX international vaccine-sharing programme, and was received by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Maleque at around 9pm.
The vaccine was transported in a Qatar cargo airplane which landed at Dhaka airport at 9:06pm, as reported by chief of DGHS unit Shahriar Sazzad.
Altogether, Bangladesh has received 5.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine from the US, with more expected to come in the months ahead.
Bangladesh started its vaccine campaign from the month of February with the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca. India also was one of the suppliers of vaccines in our country, but vaccine exports from India halted when covid situation worsened in their country.
